Braña de La Pornacal is a true natural sanctuary within Somiedo Natural Park. Surrounded by lush beech and oak forests, this area offers a unique panorama combining the serenity of nature with local history and culture.
It is the most important braña in Somiedo, home to the largest concentration of broom-thatched teito huts in the park.
It is divided into four neighbourhoods (El Cabo, El Medio, La Prida and El Río) comprising around 30 well-preserved buildings.
Traditional Grazing:
Braña de La Pornacal reflects the ancient livestock traditions of the region. Local shepherds have used this space for generations for cattle grazing, contributing to the sustainability and preservation of centuries-old practices.
Distinctive Architecture:
Exploring the braña, visitors encounter unique structures that bear witness to rural Asturian architecture. The typical stone huts, known as teitos, give La Pornacal a timeless charm.

How to reach La Pornacal
Access to the braña is on foot from the village of Villar de Vildas via the Pigüeña Valley route (PR.AS – 14.1). It is a route of just over 3 km, though you can continue further to reach Braña de Los Cuartos (or Braña Vieja), an older braña from which there is a beautiful view of the valley.
